Very recently I received my new, and VERY improved laser from DarkArmyOfOne. Some time ago I sent him my parts for a PHR build which just would not work. This is my review of the project.
Tyler discovered the main issue; that the PHR-803T diode had been installed incorrectly in the Aixiz Housing by the manufacturer, and it did not emit any light at all. He replaced my diode completely for free, and at his expense.
When I sent Dark the parts, all I asked to be done was have the parts fixed and soldered together. Just a 9 Volt battery with wires soldered to a Rkcstr driver, then soldered to the diode in the housing would have been fine. I did not ask for a housing or anything.
But a short time after receiving the parts, Dark actually offered to put all of my parts in a small, black, RadioShack Project box, FOR FREE. Of course, this was an offer I could not refuse! After tinkering with the laser, he thought there was a way the laser could be better. He asked me if this was alright, and of course I said yes again.
During this time the replaced PHR burnt out, so being the awesome guy that he is, Tyler gave me ANOTHER free PHR-803T. What he told me was that he was going to put the diode and Aixiz housing in a PocketMini, and replace my Rkcstr driver with a V4 Flexdrive! At this point I was giddy with joy. Instead of having loose wires attached to a 9 Volt battery, he was giving me a laser inside one of the most amazing hosts available, and it runs on one CR123A instead.
After a little more waiting, I was informed that my PHR PocketMini was complete. Dark promptly shipped the laser, and I could not believe how great it looked! It is very small, very well built, and the beam itself is great.
Outputting over 110MilliWatts, the laser easily lights matches, pops balloons, and does any other burning you would expect. I’ve never toyed around with a low wavelength laser, so using it with Glow-In-The-Dark materials was a lot of fun.
I don’t know what else to say except for this build was FANTASTIC, and Dark had really outdone himself. He gave me A LOT of free parts, and assured that I would absolutely love the laser; which I do! I don’t think anyone could have done a better job than he did. Dark offers a great service to anyone, and if you did not know already he sells laser DIY parts at his website, Welcome to Dark Lasers!
Thank you Tyler! :san:
