Very recently I received my new, and VERY improved laser from DarkArmyOfOne. Some time ago I sent him my parts for a PHR build which just would not work. This is my review of the project.

Tyler discovered the main issue; that the PHR-803T diode had been installed incorrectly in the Aixiz Housing by the manufacturer, and it did not emit any light at all. He replaced my diode completely for free, and at his expense.

When I sent Dark the parts, all I asked to be done was have the parts fixed and soldered together. Just a 9 Volt battery with wires soldered to a Rkcstr driver, then soldered to the diode in the housing would have been fine. I did not ask for a housing or anything.

But a short time after receiving the parts, Dark actually offered to put all of my parts in a small, black, RadioShack Project box, FOR FREE. Of course, this was an offer I could not refuse! After tinkering with the laser, he thought there was a way the laser could be better. He asked me if this was alright, and of course I said yes again.

During this time the replaced PHR burnt out, so being the awesome guy that he is, Tyler gave me ANOTHER free PHR-803T. What he told me was that he was going to put the diode and Aixiz housing in a PocketMini, and replace my Rkcstr driver with a V4 Flexdrive! At this point I was giddy with joy. Instead of having loose wires attached to a 9 Volt battery, he was giving me a laser inside one of the most amazing hosts available, and it runs on one CR123A instead.

After a little more waiting, I was informed that my PHR PocketMini was complete. Dark promptly shipped the laser, and I could not believe how great it looked! It is very small, very well built, and the beam itself is great.

Outputting over 110MilliWatts, the laser easily lights matches, pops balloons, and does any other burning you would expect. I’ve never toyed around with a low wavelength laser, so using it with Glow-In-The-Dark materials was a lot of fun.

I don’t know what else to say except for this build was FANTASTIC, and Dark had really outdone himself. He gave me A LOT of free parts, and assured that I would absolutely love the laser; which I do! I don’t think anyone could have done a better job than he did. Dark offers a great service to anyone, and if you did not know already he sells laser DIY parts at his website, Welcome to Dark Lasers!

Thank you Tyler! :san:

I had a 6x in pocket mini that I could not get to work. I killed a diode and two drivers trying to build it. So I sent the part's I had to dark and sure enough he got it working without a problem. Also I had sent it to him before the price change so it was practically free.

Glad to see another happy customer Dark. I hope you can keep providing this service for as long as possible.

Nicely done Dark ! :gj:

If I have trouble with my PHR build, can ya help me out too?

Already burnt out my first PHR and so far I've been unable to take out the dead diode from the aixiz module :undecided:

BTW, Please get cheaper shipping to Canada !!!! (the regular envelope) lol

The easiest way to remove a diode, IMO, is to cut a piece of antenna, and find the size that fits just around the can, then push or put in a vice (credit Kenom and Bob_Boyce for the idea). Or since it's dead, you could just use a screwdriver, but then you may damage the diode pocket.

Screwdriver / hammer worked like a charm :D

Thanks for the idea.

did your build come with a warranty from Dark?

I'm just trying to put together the story here

You sent him a handful of wires, module, battery, a Rkcstr driver and what he said was a burned out PHR

He first replaced your PHR and volunteered to put it in a project box for you for free.

He burned out another PHR diode while working in the project box.

He replaced the second PHR for free.

Then he decided it would be even better if he installed your PHR into a pocket mini and replaced your Rkcstr with a flexdrive. He did this for free as well

So for your burned out PHR, module, a Rkcstr, some wires, a battery, and $10 you got a completely assembled Pocket mini.

WOW! I'd be happy too.

If he isn't broke yet, he soon will be.

Peace,
dave

Yeah I've dealt with Tyler before. He's a pretty swell guy!

The minimum amount cost a little bit more than 10 dollars, but I also gave him 10 more dollars because I knew he dropped A LOT of money for my build.
What I paid does not nearly match the price of what the laser cost to build, but Dark offered to do it for free. I feel guilty about it, but he and I know I was incredibly overjoyed when I received it.

Either way Dark did a fantastic job on the laser, and I am incredibly grateful towards him.
