Cylindrical Plano-Convex vs Rod Lens for Laser Line Generation?

This sounds to me like a shortcoming of
this particular lens or type of lens or
something to that effect. What happens if
you have collimation optics and a beam
expander upstream of the cylinder/rod lens?

I should be getting a 8 X 2 inch 87mm FL cylinder lens this coming weekend and see what happens with that lens, maybe there is a way to do this by expanding the line after the lens.

Maybe. Is the line really really super thin
after it comes out of the cilynder?
