The maximum is $40 USD if the item is being declared as a gift. If it isn't something big or of significant value, you can probably get away with declaring less...
Brokerage rates however can be quite hefty depending on which courier you use; Fedex and UPS are about $25 plus the duty fees while DHL is about $30...
