I just finished my Red laser build from a 6x sled, i harvested the LCC diode and soldered a fxldrive at 450mA with a AR Glass lens and i swear its at least 300mW I have a video of it burning and a picture, I will get more pics soon.

The big question is, how long will it last at that current? Not very long, I'm afraid.

It'll last a long time, the LCC can be driven up to 500mA. If not i can swap it out for a LOC if it ever happens.

Yeah it was the LCC out of scopes 6X GB a couple weeks ago, working great scope :D

@XcreedX: where did you get that number from? In the original 6x thread, they were reported to die quickly at 420mA.

Well, one of them was in HighTechDealz website, I am having no issues so far, and i have ran it over an two hours.

Just checked the hightechdealz website:

while the 650nm red diodes are low power and can be pushed to about 400mA (also not tested).

I've got one of these as well; unfortunately info on them is very rare...

My bad, they must of changed the site, because before it said they can be pushed up to 500mA.

a 650nm Red 16x DVD Burner diode that is a Long Closed Can diode that can be equal or sometimes more efficient than the 20x DVD Burner Long Open Can diode

And a LOC can be safely ran at 420mA.

Well, in my quote they say "low power"... a bit of mixed signals here. Also, "more efficient" means you'd get more power (mW) at a given current (mA); it doesn't necessarily mean you can push them higher.

As you said... you may have gotten the lucky LD, so just enjoy it!

*Update* I lowered the current to 430mA. This should increase life span, and their is no effect on burning ability.

I am working with the same diode, at least i think its the same, but i run mine at a maxed out 418Ma, but someone swiped my meridith lens for open reds and im stuck with an acrylic lens for now, i dont think it breaches 300mw with the acrylic, but i KNOW it did with the meridith. anyone else have experiance with the meridith lenses and open can reds? The reason i ask is im curious what lens you used, if u threw a meridith modded lens on there you could drop to an even 400Ma and still burn like it does, thus increasing longevity even more.
