Hey all, now I understand that 532nm is the easiest color for our eyes to pick up, but i have been wondering what it would look like for someone who was born colorblind. Would a 10mW 532nm laser still look as bright as a 200mW 650nm laser for those who can't see color? How would 405,445,473,532,635,650, and what other nm wavelengths look to a person who is colorblind if all those colors were emitting the same mW? This question just popped into my head and it was just something i thought of asking!:thanks:
 





freinds of mine who are color blind see one color as another i.e. Purple is brown to one guy. I think they will just perceive them as different colors than you or I.
 
Well...when i showed my newwish pens to one of my best friends and asked him which one he liked more, he replied "the golden one!" and i was like o.O?...of course he was meaning the greenie lol.

So u can imagine how hilarious that scene was :crackup:... however after finally convince him that he was colorblind (we were always arguing that issue since 6th grade lol), he says he perceives green lasers as yellow altho if he watches a movie or a beamshot pic he see it as green.

Also it seems greenies are the more visible for him too, i see no reason to think otherwise altho it would be interesting to see what would happen with a 589nm, would it see it as bright as the green? :thinking:

As for 405 and 650 he seems to perceive them ok (or so he claims...), i dont remember exactly which type of colorblindess he has but here are a couple pics:

Hmmm, so how do I know which one I'm seeing correctly?:thinking:
 
Interesting! What would it be though if you put a 100mw 405 and 532nm side by side for a colorblind person to judge which one looks brighter. Since normally, we pick up the brightness based on color, this fact will most likely be void for those who are colorblind since all their eyes can pick up is light.
 
I am red and green colorblind. I usually have trouble telling which color is which when they are close together. Green lasers are definitely much brighter. If the shades of green and red are close to eachother then its hard to tell a difference. If somebody just shows me 2 pieces of paper with onew being red and the other green I can easily tell the difference between them.

I always thought the gorons in Zelda games were green... My friends say they are a yellowish color but they might be messing with me.:undecided:

I think it would be rather hard to tell the differance as you wont (your brain) wont have even experienced the color others have experienced.

As for the last picture, all I see is a bright green "6" (reminds me of a deep green LED, deeper green then 532nm.) and a bunch of brown/red dots (Looks like bloody barf :p ).
Offcoarse this isn't that accurate as we all have different computer monitors.
 
After some thinking i would say colorblind ppl have the same senstivity for all wavelengths just like everyone, only that their eyes interpret them as different colors, thats why its called colorblind i guess, so its about colors not a sensitivity matter.

what exactly do u mean?, if u mean about how to know u are blindcolor or not, here is another test similar to the chaos' post:

You must see a 74 if normal, a 21 if u are colorblind or just a bunch or dots...

Wouldn't the color blindness be particular per person who has it. As there are varying degrees and different type all mixed together. And honestly how would you know "Exactly" how Yellow his yellow is seen through his eyes? And there would be no way to tell if when he says yellow he really is seeing yellow, He could be seeing red and that how he sees yellow and green lasers, so he calls red yellow when he is seeing green and yellow.

I Agree with you that it is really interesting. I have thought this before you brought it up as well. Like what does a blind person see. And then that varies per person as well. Very brain flexing to think about tho

Yup :beer:, is very similar if not the same as how it would be to try to describe any color to a born blind person :poke:
 
this is all really interesting, and by what you guys have said, this topic is a really big brain teaser when you think about it that way. I was just wondering if 532nm is still brighter than the other wavelengths to someone who is colorblind, and i seem to have got my answer plus more. This is though a really interesting topic that i haven't really seen discussed though when it comes to beam brightness and wavelengths. Since those who can see the color of the beam can also determine the brightness, those who can't see the color can only see the light. but i guess it still makes sense in the way that 405 will still be difficult to see due to it being near the end of the visible light spectrum.

I can tell that number is six (6) but it aint bright at all. Dim green six in dim red, orange and yellow dots surround.

The 74 is very bright. Colors are sceaming!

As Krogith said: how we see the colors vary to person to person.

And that brings my mind one other thing. I have heart that humans can see about 256 differend shades of color (like 256 different blue). My mom have done a test were you should put few blue(?) cubes in order of them shade. My mom says that they all look a like :D
