Howdy everyone

Well I just finished this for one of the members here and thought I would share what I have done as there may be some interest :)

I got this laser in a partly assembled all the holes were in the enclosure to begin with so it only took me about 7 hours to finish it off
I did have to make one round hole into a square hole for the power switch.

It's a 445 lab style laser with forced air cooling, it has a temp gauge that I drilled the heat sink out for and seems to work rather well.

The temp gauge can read in F or C so it's a nice model and I believe it's aftermarket for a computer so look there if your interested.

it has a T6 3-mode driver that in stock configuration will put out over 3000mA, I modified this one to put out a max of 1400mA on
high and 280mA on low and 700Ma on fast strobe.

It is run on a 12 volt brick style power supply that is capable of 4000mA and there is a 7805 5 volt regulator for the temp gauge.

enough chat here's some pic's

High output.

low output.

Strobe output.

What a rats nest I have made. The driver is not mounted securely yet only taped in place, it will get some Arctic Alumina to hold it to the case in front of the fan.

Thanks for looking :D

How do you put the holes in it? I usually use my cheap dremel-like tool, but my holes come out looking like the ones kidergarteners make using a pair of scissors and stabbing motions....

Also, that looks like an awesome laser! By "gauging interest", do you mean you might be selling these? I might be interested....

Thanks,
Isaac

No I won't be selling these I'm finishing up two of them for a friend, I said "some interest" because some people do not know where to start some times and just seeing others work may help them :)

The holes are drilled with a drill press.

And BTW it did burn completely through 1/16" of ebony wood in about 10 seconds :eg:

Jeff,

Thanks for finishing the 2 lab units I couldn't finish due to my recent neck surgeries.

I appreciate the excellent work you have ALWAYS done for me! With my right arm out of commission, there was no date in sight I could have had these completed.

As you know, I will be selling these soon after they arrive.

Thank you,

Greg (COCONUTS)

PS: These will help whittle down my co-pay on the medical bills.

This is seriously such a cool lab laser...I hate to double post but I feel if I edit, no one would look up two posts to see it....can I ask where those enclosures came from?

Thanks,
Isaac

You can get an enclosure like this one from Digi-Key :)

I don't remember what I paid for the enclosures exactly, but I have 1 I started on before I had my surgery and a brand new one as well....maybe a 3rd if I find it. The cut one needs a paint job but is ready for the same parts I used. The power supplies haven't been drilled yet. Only the top lid. The gaskets and lid screws are included.

$10 each and 8oz First Class Postage PP from 60140 if anyone is interested?

Jeff,

I didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I need the $ and am trying to make finding these enclosures easy.

So if any one is interested in one of these lab style lasers please give Coconuts a PM and ask about them as he is putting both of them up for sale.

No they do not have any type of external modulation, they do have a 3 mode driver though, the output is, on high 1800mW on low 400mW and fast strobe 935mW.

If I had any P3 drivers that's what would be in there.

do these have analog modulation by any chance jeff?

Before I forget;

I originally purchased one from e-bay that has Modulation and copied the design using parts I gathered up over the course of 6 months.

BUT THE DESIGN IS NOT MY OWN!

I don't want to take credit for something I copied.

I had purchased four laser mirrors that I was going to mount in my Florida backyard 16' above the ground and shoot the laser out the garage loft window kinda like a blue force field on my property corners.

I got sick and it never came to be. I was going to have the other two in different colors, but that never came to be either.

I paid Jeff to finish them off so I could sell them and recoup the $$ I had in them.
