CNI 604nm/607nm portable modules!

Was bored so went ahead and asked Susan over at CNI about portable 604nm/607nm modules which could be run off batteries and....

No price as of yet, but CNI will contact me by email later. Maybe a member can buy one :)

Interesting. That would be like a true orange right? I'm a little scared of what the price might be though.

Actually....607nm labbies are around 2K-@2,5K so im guessing maybe 1K but I could be completely off. I'll see what they send. And yep, 604nm/607nm is pretty much spot on orange.

i heard the crystal are pumped by a blue diode...if that's the case....we'll replace the diode with a 7 Watts :eg:

If I didn't already know this was going to be way over budget, I'd totally go for this. I guess I'm better off looking for the holy grail of HeNe tubes.:(
 
Well, looks like we might see orange handhelds sooner than we thought. How'd they get TEC temperature regulation in something so small? IIRC all praseodymium doped mediums pretty much require it...

That's a rather odd description though, It'd be interesting to see the dimensions of the module.

I think that she mainly just didn't want to out and out say "yes, this is a pointer without a host, just stuff it in something and put batteries in it".

From my conversations with CNI, I get the impression that they're still entirely willing to work with hobbyists, they're just trying to both avoid publicity for doing so and trying to avoid saying that the products they're willing to move can be used in pointers.

That's what I had initially thought, after the whole 561nm pointer fiasco I think they're just trying to avoid the FDA in any way possible.

Wasn't the core of the 561nm issue nust an accession number thing though? Considering that they were actually trying to declare them right instead of just as 532s or something similar, it seems almost petty for those troubles to have happened. But I digress...

I almost bought an orange laser a while back. They're quite interesting... But my wallet went to another more valuable project first. So time to pay that off first! It would be interesting to see what it is come out in a pen. It's not impossible to imagine. But the efficiency would be horrible as it warmed up. And with a couple watts pump, that wouldn't take long.

I thought it was that CNI forgot to file some paperwork. I wasn't part of the GB, so I wasn't really paying attention.

Right after the 561nm pointers were seized, CNI announced that they were no longer shipping pointers or portables to the US. It's probably just too much of a hassle for them to consider it profitable, due to all the restrictions.

Though AFAIK they're still shipping incomplete modules and labbies over here, so that's good. Maybe you could ask them how much it would cost for one of those $exy PGL-III-C hosts to go along with a 607nm module. (separately of course) ;)
