Class 4's galore.

I should maybe get some Class IV lasers to go with my post count...

I'll swap for just the 488nm... Is that a handheld?
:crackup::crackup:

Not sure if serious... No, it's an air cooled Argon laser, doesn't get much further from handheld:D. Pulls ~1000W electrical at full current for a fantastic 30mW of 488nm out... Whole thing including power supply weighs >20lbs.

Dang I was hoping it was a handheld 488nm diode... Then I would have done it in a second.

Yeah ... unfortunately those are rather hard to come by at "reasonable" prices. I say "reasonable" because the prices are likely perfectly reasonable if you're running a lab or some such. Not so much for us hobbyists.

Used argon lasers on the other hand can often be found for very reasonable prices.

Talking of 488 diodes ... what happened with Alien Lasers 488 diode that he said he had?

I don't know? I talk to Alien nearly everyday... I didn't know he had a 488 diode.. Probably kept it to himself if I know Mev.. Yeah they are quite expensive diodes those 488's.. That's why I said if it's a 488 diode take my 470nm lol.

Neat collection! Now I'm inspired to get my 2W green labbies up and running. :yh:

Back to the class IV+ topic for a second, I've always wondered why the classification system wasn't expanded upon. Class IV could mean practically anything. For instance, lasers capable of ionizing air come with a whole different set of dangers, yet are still confined to class IV.

H20 I agree... We need more classes.. Not for safety or anything... Just cause class 5 sounds cool... But for real though, how are 4mw and a 10mw in different classes but a 500mw and a 7000mw aren't?!?

The LAWS weapon is in the same class as a 500mw. Does that make any sense? :)

What, are you implying that you can't knock an aircraft out of the sky with a 500mw laser? Maybe yours just has terrible divergence or something.

Seriously though, the the way the media talks about them you're think you'd be able to.

Try using a g9 instead of a G2... I shot down a Boeing 747 with my 750mw 445nm and it was at least 5 miles up.. It's gotta be a divergence problem.

:D I have a serious divergence problem, I'd better not correct it and point it at the moon though. I don't want to blow it up. :)
