Cheapest Possible Scanner?

Whats the cheapest possible way to build either a green OR red(not both) xy scanner? Can it be done for under 100?


Also how do i combine two lasers. I want to combine a green and red laser(cant afford a blue at this time :'(). What do i need for that? Is it cheap?

A green and red will make yellow. It's pretty easy to do, you can do it with a CD case. There's a thread about combining red and green here, with a number of answers for you:

I can build a cheap red / green / red+green+yellow scanner if anyone wants one.

Making a single colour scanner yourself is not that hard but combining them properly requires a dichro, a specially coloured piece of glass that reflects green and passes red laser light. A dichro plus a mount can cost as little as $70 from mliptack's optics GB, or his site.


Also nikokapo PLEASE for the love of god remove those fricken gifs from your signature!!! They are HUGE and make a page with one of your posts take AAAAGES to load!!!

dude the pics sum a size of 600k....thats NOTHING, they're not BIG :/, what are you talking about!!

i bought a RGY scanner from chinese department store for 139$ on page 6

And then the same again to import it... That's where they make money. I contacted China post and gave them the package dimensions that CDS gave me and they quoted less than half of the CDS shipping cost.
