I received the laser today, I measured the output power, it outputs 3mW, which is eye safe.



The pen is heavy and has no warring sticker.



The dot is visible during the day and the dot is orange



at first, I thought it's 20mW or more but it ends up 3mW which is 100 % eye safe.

That's great, but 638nm is widely regarded as red. :undecided:

Those specs are pretty silly. "Duty circle". <350mA? More like <40mA. 60 seconds? More like until the cells run flat. Operating temp not rated for <20C? I doubt it.

What's the current draw with alkalines? And what's the current draw with NiMH?

You will blink before damage occurs as long as it is < 5mW so, it is eye safe. I got a direct hit from that laser, I only had after images for a minute and everything returned back to normal. The fact that it is bright and 3mW makes this laser safe as you will blink before damage occurs. It is safer than a 5mW violet laser where you may not blink as fast because it is less bright. I do not encourage anyone to take a direct hit from this laser not because it will make you blind but because there is no guarantee that the laser you will get is 3mW also, there is a small risk that you do not blink fast. ultimately, it is cheap true orange and safe as long as it is < 5mW.:san:

There is a post about a young child INTENTIONALLY looking into a less than 5mw laser and having major eye damage.

Be careful - I concur with visiblegreen about not being totally eye safe. Safer.

You can still kill someone with a butter knife, it just takes longer :)

You said young child he probably shined the laser in his eye for a good amount of time, a normal person should survive < 5mW laser, 250ms is enough for a normal person to blink. A young child shouldn't be allowed to have a laser pointer. A 5mW can damage your eye only if you resist blinking. Some green lasers may leak some IR even when an IR filter is installed. I have a green laser that measured 4.5mW and now it measures 8-10mW.

agreed, but that's what happened. Not a very bright child, but you know how people are :(

I have let some of the 18-25 year old girls that come over to see my wife, play with the low power pointers, but they get special instructions on not shining at each other. Plus the room is painted entirely in flat (mostly for the HT stuff)

I get nervous with anything eye related and slightly paranoid ,,,,,, eye safe is a relative and accepted term - I've got no issue with that.

I also got sucked in by the "orange". Had just that small glimmer of crazy hope that somehow someone was selling off a bunch of 593.4 pens for cheap. Yeah, I did actually think that (self smack forhead)

Isn't 593.5 nm suppose to be called yellow. I have a 593.5 nm yellow 1mW. I bought from UK for equivalent $ 140. I will make a review after my Monday's exams.

Yeah haha. Some sellers call it yellow, others orange, and some even yellow-orange. When I had my 593.5 I sometimes saw it as an amber color, at other times saw it as more of a yellow color :D

shame its only 5mw would like to get one of those but it could be alittle overspec maybe.
