Centre of double ellipse dot?

Hi, newbie question alert!

At close range (approx 6 feet) the dot is just about round

at about 20 feet, the dot starts to become a double ellipse, is it correct to state that the centre of the dot is as per the arrow?

Yes, the center is between the two elliptical dots.
Personally I never seen a red dot other than TEM00. Maybe the diode is running too hot ?

Thanks, it's a low powered pointer, probably 0.5mW (not as bright as the 1 mW red pointer I have)

Oh, it's probably just some crap on the lens then. Those ones tend to go weird and useless fairly quickly.
