CCD-CD (iPhone) spectrography idea?

Hey, just thinking about a quick and dirty spectrometer.
Just a thought... I'm thinking a scanner CCD sensor would suffice nicely as it's horizontal.

Have a look.

Got a little inspiration from an article about iPhone spectrography, so I though I'd try it.

Interesting! I was actually thinking of a hobbyist spectrometer a while back. My idea was using a color sensing IC that would convert light into RGB and then we could essentially use RHDs calculator to find what wavelength we got. The only problem is that RBG isn't broad enough. ~640-700nm are all the same color to it :\

the discharge from the CFL does contain lines
With characteristic phosphors emissions.
The last pic shows Hg with a 405nm peak
Overlap.
