Casio LED phlatlight at lower powers

I've seen various threads on the LEDs from the casio projectors. Anyone know if they work at lower powers as well as the higher power outputs? I'm trying to work out a project for which I need a LED that doesn't look like a bulb shape, preferably with a red color. However high, unsafe-to-the-eyes power (as well as heatsinking demands) wouldn't work for what I need it for.

Thanks in advance

Sure, you can run it at lower powers - it just won't be as bright. They don't have a threshold or anything like a laser diode does.
