Capasitor question in Laser driver

Dear All,

I am trying to build my first laser driver and I used scheme given for example on this web-Site:

Instead of using 10mF capasitor i just put 2000mF (because this was the one I found at home:) Of course I can go and buy 10mF as shown on the scheme) But my question is - Using 2000mF will do nothing bad, will it ?

It will juat take more time (fractions of seconds while capasitor is being charged) till LD begins to emit laser ? Correct ?

for your first laser driver best to get all the right parts :)
the CAPACITOR filters out any voltage spikes that could kill the diode, although i use 47uf 10v electrolytic caps

Roger's circuit will still work with the larger capacitor.

I like a smaller tantalum (1uf) for better spike protection.

This is a 10uf photo of the type I use:

The 1 uf would be marked "105" .

The "E" denotes 25 VDC.

You can find them on many surplus circuit boards.
