cant take out module






From the front, that's how it was assembled.

Though be warned pressing it back in could be a terrible pain in the ass.

Why exactly do you want to take it out of the host, again?
 
i want to put a stronger module...i have about 20mw i want to replace it with a lazerer 100mw..

any advice is appreciated. :) (this is my first laser)

You could've bought a new host and heatsink and built a new laser about a hundred times easier than trying to bust out that module and pressfitting a new one.

Here's a fair warning, you might or might not end up destroying host and both modules in process.

For the record, I wouldn't go do that.
 
You have to apply a whole lot of pressure via vice to get the pressfited things undone.

Laser modules and components aren't generally regarded as most sturdiest things in existance.

Installing a module in a custom heatsink with a set screw, like ones we sell around the forums, is too easy compared to this. Simply insert module, tighten screw a bit. Done.
 
lets say i take this module out....can i take the round metal piece from it and use it for the new module?

im talking about the piece holding it to the host?

i want to put a stronger module in this host...what do you suggest i do?

Well you could, yeah, but like I said, pressing the new module back in is a bit risky, especially if you don't have any experience in this.

You are welcome to try, I'm just stating all the options here, that's all.
 
i need a really long and thing screw driver so i can get all the way in from the back without damaging the module....there is no way it will come out from the back just from the front??? its a lot closer from the front
 
i just realized this host is a pain in the ass. my plan is to take the module with the heat sink out first... remove the module from the heat - sink. file the heat sink a little bit and go from there. im sure it will make it easier to put back in with the new module... easier said than dont but have to make a plan for something good to happen am i right??
 
Filing a heatsink is a bad idea. If it doesn't fit as tight as it does, it doesn't fit at all.

And uhh not sure what you mean by those sides but let me make it clear,
You push it FROM the direction of battery barrel where the driver is, to make it move forward and fall out the front part of the host.

Obviously, like I explained in that thread, "pushing" may not be the word since it involves hammers and all.

Faisalbasha, as Eudaimonium stated, DO NOT file down the brass heatsink to make it fit looser in the host. You will ruin the ability of that heatsink to effectively couple heat into the aluminum host barrel for dissipation. That host relies upon the tight interference fit between the heatsink and the host barrel both for mechanical mounting AND thermal transfer.

Another consideration. Before driving the brass heatsink out, you should use a sharp pointy object such as an ice pick or an awl to scribe a mark on the inside of the host barrel at the heatsink on the head end so that you can press that heatsink back in to the correct depth. Otherwise you may cause issues with battery fit. When removing the heatsink, you'll need to find a hollow tube that the brass heatsink can pass through, yet small enough to contact the head end of the host barrel enough so as you drive the heatsink out it can pass through. You don't want to mess up the threads on the head end of the host barrel either. Have fun!

I've grown to admire that host style after working with a couple of them. I found a china supplier on eBay and ordered a couple more to use in a few builds. They are scheduled to arrive today. You could just buy a new one instead of going through the hassles of taking that one apart and retrofitting it.

Yesterday I was in the process of machining some tools to use for pressing the heatsinks in and out of these when the forward motor capacitor went out in my lathe. I had to stop work and remove the motor so I could read the values and order a couple of motor capacitors. I figured I might as well change them both out while I have the lathe apart since it's so hard to get the motor out to get at those capacitor covers.

i understand a lot more now.... ok i have a question.. i dont care if i damage the heat sink or the module because ill get new ones... all ill have is the host. do you know where i can find a heat sink that can work in my laser? do you also know where i can find a 12mm 200mw module green? im sorry sir i know im asking too much but I'm a n00b when it comes to lasers im new to it.. i appreciate the long reply you posted that was very useful especially marking a line to the original heat sink position and the hollow pipe to take out the module.

There are a lot of suppliers of green modules. Many sellers in china and other countries on eBay, sellers on here, and online stores. Many of those offer free shipping.

Once you have module in hand, there are several ppl here that offer machining services. Any one of those can make you a press-fit heatsink for your host that will accept your module. You'll probably have to mail them your host, the new module, and maybe even the old module for depth measurement.
