Dear experts,
We're starting a tour guide company. We need pointers for outdoor use.
Dependability, cost of ownership, safety, color even, can one of you advise us in detail as to what matters and what doesn't?
Many thanks!
Alex

What type of environment are you going to be in? How far of distances will you be pointing? Your best best will most likely be this green laser pointer, you won't find any green lasers for much cheaper than this: DealExtreme: $10.50 True Green Laser Pen 5mW. If cost isn't an issue, there are some better choices out there, but these will probably do.

Thanks for the quick reply and specific advice.
To answer your questions, our walks are in major cities, guides stand outdoors, pointing to buildings up to 2 miles away, but generally closer.
Since my first posting, I've read just what you write - that Green 5mW is plenty good.
But can it cost just over $10?! Will the lamp work for a long time?
And also, do I need to worry from the start what batteries to choose to power the pointer?
Anticipated thanks.

2miles away.... wow that's a tough one as my rpl 450 is visible on a tower 1700 feet away but my x125 is just barley visible and that's only 1700 feet and were talking about lasers that cost 1800$ and 250$
but at night time my rpl with beam expander can reach well over 9 miles and you can still see the dot on the buildings in Dallas : )

Many thanks, Dallas! When you're in Paris, you must visit us - we'll treat you to a free walk of the city!
All the best.
Alex

For pointing at things 2miles away, even 1mile, is going to require a pretty powerful laser if you want to see the dot.
