Hi there. New to this forum. So far very impressed from the professionalism of its members.

I am intending to buy the Spartan 400mW Blue Handheld Laser from Dragon Lasers. But before I buy, I want to make sure of its burning capabilities, and in particular, its capability of burning a match without any other accessories such as a magnifying glass.

I read a few reviews that were posted here about the Spartan 400mW Blue Handheld Laser, but the burning issue is unclear enough.

I will be grateful if someone who owns the Spartan 400mW Blue Handheld Laser Circular Beam can confirm that this laser can burn a match and other stuff.

I am aware of the Spartan 1W Laser, but from my own reasons I don't want it.

Thanks in advance and keep on with the good work.
:thanks:

Yes it can burn a match. 400mw is more than enough if it is focused correctly.

Thanks, but are you saying that from your experience or you are just talking theoretically?

400mw should be more than enough, however in the spartan series the beam is thick and thus energy spreads.

Please clarify.

:thanks:

In my first post I said that I read reviews about the Spartan 400mW 447nm posted in this forum.

In the link you posted (which I am familiar with) he is saying: "The beam isn't quite powerful enough to set a match head on fire by itself, although it will get it smoking. With a magnifying glass, I can set the match head alight almost immediately...".

My question was whether this laser can burn a match without the need of a magnifying glass. He says it can't, but perhaps other members who has that laser can report that they succeeded in burning a match without a magnifying glass?

:)

by switching to another lens (out of about 30 lens' i have 1 or 2 focused the beam right) i can light a match instantly with no magnifying glass from meters away

Thank you.
From all of the information that I gathered, it appears that the DL 400mw Spartan can't burn a match without any other accessories or modifications.

Im new to lasers too but... I have a 250mw 650nm red, and it will burn almost anything dark! White and shiny things just make the beam reflect like a mirror though. I've noticed that I need to focus the beam every time I want to burn. Also I can only burn matches and dark stuff from about 3 feet! If it's farther it won't burn... ;(
400mw is close to double! It should burn just fine when focused!

The problem is that the Spartan 400mW 447nm isn't focus able and its beam is thick. Therefore, it can't burn a match, even though it has high power.

i do not know about the particular laser you want. but the answer is this simple. if the laser you want has adjustable focusing it will burn a match easily. and in general 400mw focused to infinity will ignite a match. but not instantly and you need a steady hand or some kind of holder.
