Cajunlasers 400mW 532nm (Pics) EDIT: REMOVED THE WATERPROOFING LENS

Re: Just got my Cajunlasers 400mW 532nm (Pics)I got the laser25 hours after paying fo

99% sure the glass piece in the front is not in any way an IR filter.

Also wouldn't be surprised if this is the piece of glass...

Waterproof lens /window lens /405-532nm coated [OL-CWP] - $1.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Taking it out should improve the dot a bit, but at the cost of losing waterproofing. So not worth it IMO.

O damn, I didn't even see that on olike.com thats Infinitus!

I think that is exactly the piece in front. I think the unit is still VERY water "resistant" (it would work fine in light rain or less) and I don't plan on operating it underwater.

If I do, I will order that glass. Wouldn't mind having a few actually, in case I wanted to do a waterproof build sometime.

Thanks for that link!

Tsteele what did you use to get the aluminum ring out? A spanner wrench?

I just had a long, thin pair of needle nose pliers that fit perfect. When I get home I'll post a pic. I'll see if I can find something similar online to show you. It was really easy.

Of course I say that, but I over tightened putting it back in and broke it. Ha ha!

Here is a link to a pair just like what I used

I have a question, if I put a washer in that is smaller in diameter than the exit aperture, would that be a good way to get a tighter dot? Any negatives to doing this? Just wondering...

Great! I have a similar pair I can use. I'll let you know how it goes. How easy was it to break lol?

I was thinking the same thing with the washer. I guess if you get it too small you could maybe reflect light back in the laser, but I doubt it will hurt much. Just not too small

I took mine out with a regular needlenose, It was super easy to turn and there was no glue holding it in. SUPER easy to do took me 2-3 minutes. The beam now is SO DIFFERENT! The dot is so much cleaner and the divergence looks so much better it feels like a different laser. THUMBS up to this mod. (btw I left the red O-ring and I can focus past infinity with it all the was screwed in)

My charger broke so I only have half full cells EVEN with the half charged cells I BEAT my old power output with this laser.

WITH WINDOW AND FULL BATTERIES 453mw
WITHOUT WINDOW HALF FULL BATTERIES 490mw
(pictures shows 455 but it went up before I could snap a picture)

I bet it would still be very waterproof.

Perhaps it could be replaced with this IR filter: 808nm,1064nm IR filter [OL-FL] - $3.50 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Although it's a couple mm less in diameter :undecided:

That is what I was thinking. I was going to paint it flat black to keep it from reflecting back. I'd give up some power to get a smaller dot.

I'm gonna remove the window from mine too in that case, my glass window must have some type of scratch or defect because next to my somewhat blurry dot, I also get a little bonus side circle of light :D

I don't plan on taking mine into inclement weather anytime... it's also nice to know there are replacement windows in case I ever want to go back to waterproof.

Re: Cajunlasers 400mW 532nm (Pics) EDIT: WITH LENS MOD(SORT OF) - on page 2

Have you guys measured the loss through the waterproof glass?

I'm trying to decide whether to remove mine too:)

My thinking was this:

I might wave a 20mW laser around in the water, but waving a 300-400mW laser around underwater in a sink or tub is crazy bless everyone has eye protection. I don't snorkel or scuba often, and I don't have access to a pool after dark often. The one I could go to is community pool for our neighborhood, so again - unless I'm handing out safety glasses to dozens of people, what can I do?

So I'd rather have a better beam/dot and maybe power.

On the other hand, if you have plenty of power (mine DOESN'T) and you think your beam looks great, then I'd leave it alone.

Re: Cajunlasers 400mW 532nm (Pics) EDIT: WITH LENS MOD(SORT OF) - on page 2

Re-metered today, and came up with 490mw peak, before it was 453 peak :)

Re: Cajunlasers 400mW 532nm (Pics) EDIT: WITH LENS MOD(SORT OF) - on page 2

On my older version of this laser the front lens looked different, but did have a little bezel looking thing holding in the lens, it was very tightly screwed in and the tools I had on hand weren't able to back it off to attempt a lens removal. Any rate - to add to this discussion, I had just gotten in my AW IMR 18650, and metering the un-modded laser with a xxxfire 18650 yielded around 380-400mw, when swapping to the AW IMR 18650 I saw my average power go to 400-420mw, nice improvement for just changing to a better battery. (I credit InfinitusEquitas for this discovery - IIRC) The power output, at least on my own, tends to fluctuate, even with the high dollar 18650 on board.

^^^Thanks for the credit:p

I'm actually at a loss to explain the difference. Ideally the driver should regulate to the point where the battery wouldn't matter, but my firsthand experience has proven otherwise. Apparently yours as well.

Did you run the test with the AW at 4.2v to start btw?
