burning laser diode extraction help

for those of you who have extracted your own diodes from DVD burners, I just recently took apart my Sony Vaio PCV RX650 and there are 2 drives, I took apart the one that says DVD RX and looked for a diode. Couldn't find one!!! it sucks. Is it in the other drive in the computer? Can u help? thanks guys

why do people persist to find red laser diodes in unknown DVD burners when you can buy exactly what your looking for almost always cheaper than the burner itself and you know the diodes specs without guessing?

Baffled...

Well if you have useless DVD burner .. wouldn't you want to get the useful parts out ? I would ..

what a $7 diode thats used and you dont know the specs? sure...
