Building first Bluray 803t laser without testdummy

Helllllloo, I've just received my phr-803t diodes and a sony 16x red dvd burner diode, with aixiz modules and rckstr driver!

I have a problem with the test load I also ordered, I don't know how to use it...so I'm thinking about not to use it and connect the 803t straight to the driver, set the driver to the lowest current, connect the power circle to a amperemeter and improve till I have 100mA, does that work?

and what is the difference when I connect the red laser diode, what have I to change?

I'll power it up with a 9V battery.

Scroll down and download the pdf. It shows 2 points on the rkcstr driver.

You check the resistance there.

to estimate current, use: 1.25 / resistance = current

for 100ma, set the pot till the resistance reads 12.5 ohms

I am sure this works with the PHR. I am not sure about 16x dvd burner diode.


Since you have the test load, I still reccomend you use it.

Why 1.25/resistance? I mean 1.25 would be 1.25 Volt, why?
 
your testload is unassembled right?
here is a tutorial how to assemble it, made by the owner RKCSTR.

Because that is the voltage across the resistor. Don't quote me on this though.

All i know is, thats the formula the rkcstr's manual gave.

I used it, and it worked. I checked it using an amp meter, It was off by 0.1ma.
 
The Rkcstr driver creates a voltage potential of 1.25 volts over this resistor, which is known as the "reference voltage". After this resistor is the diode, then ground. Using Ohm's law, by using the resistance and knowing the voltage across it you therefore know the current through it also, which is equal to the current through the diode.
 
Now, I connected everything and set the driver to 100mA with an Amperemeter, and connected a bluray diode. It didn't work.

I connected the driver to a 'Voltmeter' and it showed about 8.5V. Am I doing something wrong?!! (Im using a 9V battery)
Did I damage the diodes?

maybe you're not usnig the diode correct.do you know your diode's pinout?

i think I know it, over the neutral pin in the middle is the negative left, and the positive right.
But I didn't remove the stuff around the pins, it's connected to them and very hard to remove... :/ :confused:

What does the resistance read across the 2 points on the driver?

The diode isn't emitting anything.

Sorry, but whats the meaning of what does the resistance READ ? I'm actually not very good in English.
