Building a powerful red laser

The choice of host is really up to you. There are lots of threads here on LPF with many hosts used for the LPC-815 diode. If you use the rkcstr driver you will need more than 5.25 VDC from the batteries to run the laser diode and the Micro-Drive. You can do that with a variety of battery combinations.

18650 is rechargeable Li-ion nominally 3.7 VDC. Fully charged: 4.2 VDC. All of the Li-ion batteries used for our lasers are the same.

Crap Yzer beat me to it....

Same as a 10440, 14500, 18500, its 4.2 MAX but averages 3.7V, the only difference is size of cells and how many mAh, and mAh is basicly how many hours that battery will last if that much current is drawn from it.

Hopefully this will explain if you don't know already;

An 18650 usually has 2900mAh, so if you laser uses 2900mA you batter will last 1 hour in theory.

However if your laser uses 5800mA then in theroy you'd only get 30 minutes of use.

Now as far as batterys go as said the 18650 has about 2900mAh, the 10440 has about 350mAh, plus the fact that both are rechargable.
