Building a Blu-ray.

After tiring of my 5mw greenie, I decided I would like to upgrade to a better laser. After reading the characteristics of the different colours of laser light, I decided on violet (blu-ray) because it is pleasing esthetically. After looking at the price for some of the different violet lasers, I figured it was probably better to build one. After reading extensively on the subject of building a laser, I have a series of questions for the forum members.

1. What host do you recommend?
2. Are there any "kits" that are good buys?
3. Should I use an acrylic aixiz module?
4. What driver circuit do you recommend for the PHR-803t diode?
5. How does the milliamp rating of the host relate to the output power of the diode

I am a "Newbie" and if violet lasers are hard to build, I will look at other colours.
I have soldering experience, but with nothing as small as a driver circuit.

So cost would basically be 55$ plus diode and driver?

I see something on stonetek ("Complete laser kit-Pocket mini") that looks exactly like this? Is that the same thing?

It is indeed!

But Greg has many other parts that he is able to include in an 'upgraded' Pocket Mini kit.

I can include a PHR sled for $15 dollars. (sleds only, no harvesting)
Also, an AixiZ module for $5 dollars...

Thanks Jay for the edit in your post on Dave's link above . No questions now. I've figured out the safe way to

check my mA for the Lava drive  (after the drive) as apposed to across the input. Duh!!!

I only read that damn thing 100 x's. {kaa'ching got it}.

Use an H20L. I used a PHR diode for my first Blu-Ray laser and I was sorely disappointed that it could not burn stuff. The GGW-H20L diode can definitely burn, though I don't even have one yet.

What would an H20L cost? Would I need a glass aixiz module? Can it be run on a flexdrive?
