I bought this laser module and driver for my first blu ray laser. I had already made a dvd burner one, but wanted to make a blu ray laser next. Came in the mail in great time, followed the instruction sheet perfectly, went to turn on the laser and a faint purplish glow. Cool I thought and I turned up the pot, and checking with my multimeter. But theres the problem, it got brighter, just not by much. Probably about the same as a 5mw red laser, and it was at the current (100mA). And of course I wont get a new laser from him because "I" must have done something to it, and he doesnt exchange or return. Very poor selling on his part. Would avoid buying from him. Any ideas on what may be wrong with it?

Sounds like the diode is blown. However, there are many things that could go wrong with the driver assembly as well. How are you measuring the current? If you are sure that your driver is providing 100mA, then a blown diode is my guess.

Yes if you are sure you've got it putting out 100mA with a 9v battery (assuming so since auction shows a 9v snap connector)
then i'd say your diode is blown.

you next step is...
1. go to modwerx.com and get a new diode (PHR-803t)
2. go to rkcstr.nfshost.com and buy a driver AND a test load.
3. build a sweet blu-ray.

That guy effing sucks! When i was a little less educated i bought one of his kits and it lasted a couple days at a safe current, then it quit. bought a second one and it lasted a week until i changed the battery and it blew the diode

I wish i found out about modwerx earlier. Its a bit cheaper than HTD where I ordered my stuff from. Still waiting for it all to get here.

mmhmmm i also did one of these kits when i was less educated.. lt lasted 2 hrs until I changed the batteries.. killed the diode right away

Wish I knew about the rkcstr and flexdrives!
