Broken laser !! O-like 500mW green !

^^^If it was confirmed to be up to spec prior to this problem, than self repair would be easy.

On the old style ones it would actually be extremely easy.

Still, IMO not worth the risk vs sending it back.

Yes, because waiting weeks for the mail and paying out the *ss to mail something to china is A LOT better than buying a $5 iron at lowes :whistle:

So are you willing to go to bat for o-like and say that the already broken laser will be up to spec once it's soldered, and if it's not, you'll replace it?:whistle:

If this was a DIY, I would agree, but it's not, it's laser bought from a company that offers a warranty. Voiding the warranty over $35 in shipping is stupid imo.
 
thank you very much for all your answers, but Susie sent me no answers since last Thursday, I expect a lot I do not know if the return is the best solution.
In the best case I will have it in one month :(

Return is the best solution, believe me.

I have lots of experience with returning lasers to O-like and corresponding with Susie. She always replies.

I returned three lasers to O-like, two were underspec and one died a short while after it came. Susie replaced the two underspec with two overspec lasers and gave me a full refund for the dead laser.

Yes, it took a while, yes, it was a hassle, but eventually I got what I paid for.

While I can't say that O-like's products are always of good quality or up to spec, their customer service is good.

That said, I'm sure Susie will reply and offer you with a solution (probably to return it for a replacement), and if she doesn't reply, send her another email.

I realy don't recommend you to try and fix it yourself. Most probably you'll break it or change it and cause it to malfunction.

It seems like it would be a lot easier to buy a soldering iron and some solder and just do it yourself. Obviously that doesn't excuse o-like's lack of quality but in the end it will be easier than sending it back, just my .02

Im am not sure its a 500 mW laser because i bought the 400 one but I paid the difference to have the 500mW one. I asked Susie who told me to do like that but I have no proof of the power :(
We can't have a certificate of power at o-like ?

Would be nice. It's actually my single biggest gripe with the company... they refuse to LPM a laser even for $10, I offered and suggested it to them. I'm sure others have too.

Without your own LPM, or at the very least another laser to compare it to, that is of a known power, there is no way to be sure.

See if maybe there is someone that lives near you, who can LPM it for you. Or you can mail to to someone on here for testing. Just about any vet will do it for you for the price of return shipping.
 
Soldering that spring back onto the driver board may require disassembly of the laser body to get to it. I have had near similar problems putting a longer protected cell into a housing designed for the shorter sized cell. For one, I machined a spacer collar.
Is that the cell which came with the laser?

He can't LPM it now, because it's broken.

@OP
If you have the knowledge and the experience of disassembling a laser, and you are willing to take the risk of breaking it even more and voiding the warranty - than go for it.

I still believe that returnig it is your best bet.
