Broken focusing lens

Changing the distance of the lens to the diode changes the focus. So your going to have to play with how far it needs to be to give you the best range of focus.

I ordered a G2 lens from DTR and right now it has passed costums in the USA so it should be on its way to europe now ^^ can't wait till it arives ^^
 
I just got the lens today :) super fast ^^

I got a slight problem though.... it does fit but the problem is i cannot get it to focus... if i screw it to deep it falls in.. if not deep enough it just gives me a huge blue circle ^^

The small lens barrel is the original one that was in it
The big one is my new lens from DTR

My problem is that i cannot get the new lens to align at a perfect distance to make a infinity focus.. it ends up either to far from the laser and makes a big blue circle or it goes to close and falls loose of the lens holder(the big black top part)

The lens in the old barrel is located almost in the middle of the barrel and the new lens almost at the very end of it

I don't really know how to get it at a perfect distance from the laser to make it focus into a nice blue beam.
 
If that is a fancy, high quality, single aspheric glass, superduper G5000xt lens, chances are that the lens element is supposed to go closest to the diode.

Have you tried turning the lens around and screwing it in that way? It shouldn't hurt, since the lens barrel is hollow and the LD is flush with the heatsink, I don't think you would be able to bottom out the lens onto the LD and damage them.

When you say that the new lens is at the end of the barrel, try put that end close to the diode and screw it in that way.
 
A guy just had the same thread. He was having lens problems, and just needed to flip her around.
If your getting a big dot, sounds like it could be backwards.
 
I concur....try putting it in with the notches facing away from the diode.

That is exactly what i did the end where the lens is located was screwed in closest to the diode but this did not seem to work
I tried to see what the perfect distance would be by just holding the lens infornt of the diode and turning it on.
The distance i should have between them is about half a centimeter.

Could it be that this lens has to be closer to the diode to focus then my old lens did? if so then that would explain why i can't get it to focus since the lens cannot get that close without falling out of the lens holder ^^''...

Although it is very hard to calculate the distance between the lens and the diode since the top part where the lens is in is all black so i cannot see how close the lens is when i screw it on...
 
No...no. It goes in close to the diode, you got it right.
But, you say that is still not close enough? hmmm

Get another shot of this pic, but take it at about a 25-30 degree angle.
I'm not getting how your lens barrel threads are positioned.
Also, in this pic are we looking in the same direction as the diode is pointing when it's assembled?
Don't worry, we'll get this figured out.

I've uploaded some pictures of my laser inclusing a pic in which you can see it when the top part is on the bottom part.

That pic you posted is the top part where the lens goes in and it is the back of the part the side that gets screwed on the other part of the laser where the lens should be closest to.

here are the pics i hope they are good enough tell me if i should make some more :)

hmmm...I get a better picture of the lens-barrel threads now, but...

Do this for me....take the old lens barrel and get that lens out of it somehow. You can use a knife with a broad tip and engage that inner brass ring to turn it out.

I want to see what the old lens is shaped like. Mark the side that goes toward the diode with a sharpie or something before you take it out.
