Broken Blue-ray window

Today I stripped out 2 of DDL's group buy Blue-rays, fitted them into Aixiz housings, connected them to a dual LM317 driver board set to 10ma and got 2 glowing jems, adjustment to 39ma a channel had them nice and bright .

When I put the lenses in place one of the bluies was easy to get to a nice tight dot.......The other one had the messiest dot I have ever seen .

Close investigation with an eye loupe shows it has a broken window, around half the glass is missing! I have got to think that this is a manufacturing fault as I cannot see the bits inside and, unless it had broken into a number of pieces the bezel round the aperture would have kept it in place.

Has anyone been successful in somehow removing the remains of a broken window? (I did try a search but anything over 3months old gives me a 404 error).

*Edit...moved to correct forum... ::) and picture added...I could not get a good photo so this has been massaged by hand to show that the break looks to be the radius of the window and offset....

i removed the window on my bluray, i took a cutting wheel on my dremel to the sides just until the wall was very thin, then it just popped off with a pair of pliers, the laser perfectly in tact

I have already mounted it in the Aixiz so I cannot get at it with my dremel I would probably knack it getting it out again....
Out of interest why did you have to remove your window?

well if you don't wanna pop it out of the axiz module it's gonna be a real pain to open. i took the window off my bluray after i snapped the VLD pin off

I was big and brave and I used a jewelers screwdriver to break out more of the glass. It worked :), there is still a slight line through the dot but you need to look hard to see it.
