BR PHR-803T Sleds or DIODE $13.50 FINISHED. DONE

Re: BR PHR-803T Sleds or DIODE $13.50 Shipped Anyw

Hi, I just registered here today. Sorry for my first post to be in the gimme-gimme section.

Been reading on the forums for a while and it's a gold mine of information on lasers. I'll try and contribute some stuff if I can, although so far it seems like this place has diodes covered!

A while back I saw the infamous kipkay vid and was amazed all these high power diodes were all around us. Bought myself an LG 22x [gh22], hacked out the diode, thought I'd broken it because it was open can. Breadboarded a driver, it worked. Then it broke. Then it worked. For two minutes. Now it's dead. Common experience I'm sure, although I did manage to pop two whole matches before it died.. Think I mighta static-ed it to death because voltage and current were ok. Lesson learned..

Anyways, just wanted to know if I could put an order in for a bare diode delivered to UK? I'll PM you as well BluRay.

It's more likely that a spike from an unregulated battery did it in. You MUST use a current regulating driver if you want the diode to have a chance of surviving. Kipkay's hacks have made him alott of money and killed alott of diodes.

If you're going to burn a violet laser diode, do so with a good driver.

Peace,
dave

I'm using a modded ATX for a bench supply and I had a LM317 driving it at ~380mA so I'm not sure what happened. Was an odd one because I'd set 'er up and focused the beam, then went to watch some TV. Came back and plugged it in and nothing. The solder around the diode's terminals had a weird white coating so I thought "aha dry joint!" and melted the solder again quickly. Tested it, and was perfect. Put it away again then the next time I came back to it, dead as a dodo. Not even a LED now... Can you break them by twisting the wires a wee bit?

I'm gonna breadboard a better driver though, one with current and voltage reg. I was putting 5v into it before the LM317 so it shoulda been ok but I didn't trust 4.8V without load and ~2.5 with - be much happier with two LM317s I think. Also didn't have any protection diodes or caps - assumed my bench supply would be ok! Might fix that on the next driver too..

OK, i put you down for 1 diode on here also. And theres 2-3 people that sells good drivers on this forum, you should try to buy one from them, saves your diode and is not that exspensive.

Cool  ;)
payment sent for 2 sled + 4 aixiz module
You can wait to have the module before sending the sled =)
Thanks !  :)

Can you tell me the PP transaction number?? PP is soo slow i cant open the details for the transaction.

I think he's into electronics (as am I) and doesn't want to buy a driver if he's got enough parts lying around for drivers.

Well, that might be the reason your diode died. Breadboards can have intermittent contact between terminals and rails. Havve you ever heard of the saying "Discharge the cap before connecting"? If the driver is running, and the wire disconnects, the cap is almost immediately charged with maximum voltage, which is dumped into the diode when the contact restores.

I once made a driver on a breadboard too, but I made very sure the diodes were safe, by soldering *additional* components directly to the laser diode, which act as a spike filter. To be more precise:

mmmmmm i love the smell of diodes in the post...... but i'm a long long way away.... let's hope those little babies make it through african post ;D

Re: BR PHR-803T Sleds or DIODE $13.50 Shipped Anyw

@ BluRay

Thanks for letting me in on the buy, I was feeling a bit hard done by having to gut another £22 DVD-RW, and was considering just leaving it and keeping my 'two matches popped' memories! I'm especially pleased about the PHR-803T - wasn't even planning on one of those until I saw your price.

One thing though, if it's not too much trouble can you test both the diodes at low current before you send 'em? I'd be gutted if I got some duds.. although I don't know the likelihood of that, I've only harvested two drives.

@ Zom-B

Yeah I got the bits and pieces sitting around to make a driver so I thought I'd just go for it. I hadn't considered that it might'a been a momentary short on the breadboard.. I think I'll take your advice and solder the over-volt protection cap, reverse voltage protection diode and output cap straight to the LD.

I'm using a glass Meredith housing so there's plenty of space for that inside the casing and the driver can live on the breadboard.

Re: BR PHR-803T Sleds or DIODE $13.50 Shipped Anyw

sure i test all the diodes before sending, so its ok. I'll send them once you make the payments, thanks

updated the list. for some reason people come into here and not the forsale page lol

So those without the aixiz modules in their order. i will send them sleds out 2morrow 11th Nov 08. thanks for your patients.

Hello Tommy, are the Aixiz there in the meantime? I had ordered a spare Aixiz, no extracting/mounting.
If you did not get the Aixiz modules by now, i would prefer getting just the sled and a  refund of the $4 if you don't mind.

Thank you.

Re: BR PHR-803T Sleds or DIODE $13.50 Shipped Anyw

just realized to many diodes and too few Aixiz modules..... If you haven't shipped mine yet and have one spare could you pop it in my goodie bag ;) let me know and i'll get the money to you.....
