Hey guys, I have been wanting to make a burning laser for some time. I have a DVD burner diode and a blu ray diode. I got the blu ray diode off ebay, and when it arrived, (today) I looked at it and noticed it had 2 small circuit boards attached to the positive, negative, and ground leads. Should these be removed if I plan on putting the diode in an axiz module, or will it fit with the boards attached? What are they there for?

Thanks!!

Those are on ALL diodes, including thoe from sleds, there are some videos on removing them.

That is a PHR diode. Search something like removing the PCB and PHR. You should get a couple of ideas that way

Also run it at no more than ~120mA. Run it lower to be more safe. (I don't care what the seller said ;) )

Peace,
dave

Welcome to the forum. Please make the pic smaller next time ... maybe 800x600 or 640x480. These boards should come off from the diode before you hook it up to your driver. Look for the ways suggested above, I use a soldering iron and get a quick blob on all three leads while shoving the boards off with a tweezers or jewellers screwdriver. Also, you can very carefully cut them off a bit at a time with a razor knife. This is time consuming, don`t cut a leg off ... There are other ways too.
