Some buddies and I entered the Blazin Hog BBQ competition yesterday...

Chicken, Ribs, and Tri tip...

There were 18 competitors... We went up against the big boys and their 20,000 dollar fancy trailer rigs with our Webers and smoker...

We took 1st place for Tri tip and People's choice for Ribs and snatched $600 dollars cash along with it...

Not bad for the Bucket Boy BBQ team. Rookies going in and showing that you can cook just as good on a small cooker hauled in the back of your pickup truck!

YOU GO GUYS!!!

seen it many times in the 35+ cookoffs my team has entered over 12 years--ThePitmeisters are regulars when the trophies are being handed out but ANYONE can win--blind judging and sometimes judges without very good tastebuds-see to that

-its alwys a crap-shoot--

we enter each catagory 4 times and there are 130+ entries at the BRAZORIS CO. FAIR BBQ COOKOFF every year..we turn in the BEST and give away the REST we do 60 sides of ribs-25 briskets and all the rest too..including giving away 20 Kegs of COORS in three days!!!

congrats boys!!!!

Wow Hak! That's a lot of cooking! You must have more than 4 guys on your team huh?

Ha ha! Yeah but we'll just have to cook more up is all!

People's choice... We had to give everything away to all the people...

They had strict rules too. We had to turn in our entry of chicken at 2:30, and after that, we could give out chicken samples to all the people, who would put their tickets in the little 'people's choice' buckets in front of the serving table at who ever they liked the best...

But the ribs had to be turned in 45 minutes later.

Then we could give out ribs...

But then the Tri tip had to be turned in 45 minutes after that. And then we could give out Tri tip.

Anyway, that means we gave away all our food!

As you can imaging, it was a lot of work to make sure you got your different entries entered on time, and also serving the people all at the same time. So it really does take a 4 man team for something like this...

This was our first real competition. We have a get together each year at a buddy's house, where about 10 of us compete just for ribs, but it's not serious like this competition was. (well, none of is is really serious, it's all in fun) But our little competition between friends is just a gathering of maybe 100 people. And we get judges to pick the best ribs... I won that 2 years back, and my buddy Jeff (in the red) won it last year...

But this was the real deal for us rookies! We had to serve probably a couple of hundred people for each time. (just samples for tasting) But it's still a lot of work. And the timing is critical...

So we're pretty happy with ourselves and all...
