Hello everyone

i want re make BDR-209 1W build next time
I lost more than 10 violet lasers.
many reason... Sudden death.. fever. 2Pin diode....
i can Resolve 2Pin now!

1W or more How many years have you used it when you set it?

please give me advice :)

Oh forget about achieving the 1 w Holy Grail output . Short duty cycles these guys are very vulnerable and get twisted easy.

hi, bdr209 works great at 550ma for safe current and up to 600ma if you want to push it,my bdr209 runs at 570ma and outputs 930mw which is very nice, don't try to get or pass the 1w range or you will start losing diodes quick.
 
As everyone else has already stated, I prefer 550 mA, but I guess a little more might be okay. If you start chasing after a 1 watt one, you will lose a lot of diodes. This has been proven time and time again. Astralist's Pico Drive has been used by one member here and he claims it has worked well for some time. I have used this driver for some of the Sharp single mode diodes, so there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

Are you wanting this primarily for the color? If you don't need a single mode diode there are now 405nm MM diodes that can safely do well over a watt.
 
I have had bad luck with these diodes. I kept having them die on me, and every time I ordered a new one from DTR I'd have him set the current a little lower. the one I have now has lasted quite a while, but only does about 650ish mW. My sig says it's driven @ .520A, lower than most go. as wizard said, there are MM 405s now. considering one myself

Long time, no see. Glad to see you posting again. I have found that using a larger mass heat sink helped me to stop the premature deaths of these diodes. The BDR-209 is a tiny diode and has a fairly high Vf, so it does heat up a lot. With a larger heat sink, there is no reason you can't have a >850 mW 405nm laser.
 
mine is in a 501B but the heatsink is copper... I just have terrible luck. my obsession with GITD/fluorescent stuff means this laser sees a lot of use so a longer duty cycle is desirable for me anyway

yeah, I still drop in every now and then. gotta try to stay away from the religion thread. now let me not derail this here thread any more
