Battery question






It might work, or you might kill the driver and/or LED. It depends on the driver they used. It's up to you if you think it's worth the risk.
 
Just tossing this out there, but it will definitely work with one 18350, and a spacer. All you need is a piece of conductive metal.
 
since this topic is about batteries I was wondering
has anyone ever tried 2 cr-123 3v batteries in a
wicked arctic spyder 3 :anyone:
 
Probably not...

They are meat to run off of one 18650, two 3v batteries might damage the driver.

I've heard of people running the Arctic on 2 18350's with out noticeable damage. I think the driver they use is pretty stable.
 
In that case two 3v batteries should be fine. Personally I'm too paranoid to do that... I killed a diode and driver that way once :p

In series? You'd think all that would do is make the driver get hotter, and not increase the power. So what would be the point?
 
Exactly, you're wasting your time unless it's in parallel. Only real reason for series is for higher voltage, which is needed for some LED's, or a linear regulator for diodes such s 445nm, or even the new 515nm diodes with a Vf of 9V.

It's a switching regulator, so the efficiency doesn't change much with a change in input voltage. Two smaller cells will have less energy than a single larger cell though. That's just how battery chemistry works.

The only point would be if you didn't have an 18650.

The arctic can behave erratically with two cells instead of one. Smart switch features go wonky, and regulation goes to crap. It might not kill it, but it's certainly not a good idea. It's probably a "boost only" driver.

and i did try it out
the arctic spyder3 ran just fine
on 2 cr-123 3v batteries
