Battery polarity question

I just bought 3 laser pointers from an online company "chinavasion.com" but the pointers came with really poor instructions as to which way the batteries go in. Their reply to my question was that i should seek advice from a service technician locally.
I don't want to be bothered with doing that and if need be i will send them back to china, but want to know if there is a standard way that batteries go in a pointer or does it vary by manufacturer?
Is there a way to tell by looking at the battery terminals?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Peter

Hello and welcome to the forum!

532nm green pointers are usually (99.9%) case positive, this
means the batteries negative side goes against the spring near the center of the
the laser, and the positive side of the batteries goes towards the rear end of the laser.

What laser did you buy exactly? Got a link?

I usually put the negative end where the spring is, and the positive end on the flat side. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it seems to be the usual design (because the spring can't rest so well on the nobby end).
