So I'm planning on ordering an SF501B 2-2.4w 445nm Blue laser from Sci-Fi Lasers and I was deciding on what batteries I should get. I heard that the option for 18650 drivers was available so I'd prefer to use 18650s.

How good would these batteries be for this laser?

They won't fit that host, that laser requires 2 batteries, that host would only fit one 18650, so you need to use two 16340. Unless there is a battery extension tube available for that host.

I've spoken to the owner Eitan and he said that the laser would take one 18650 when using 18650 drivers.

Would these be effective at doing their job while being IMR and High Discharge?

Yes they will work fine, and LG are good quality. The only thing is I am not sure if that battery comes in both flat top and button top. Am not sure if the battery contact board Eitan is using has a spring or not, you may want to ask him if you need to use a button top or if a flat top battery will work. Some lasers only have a spring in the tail cap and some have a spring at both ends.

He said flat top is fine so I guess I'm all set. Will check in with him to make sure.

You are all set then. Be sure to charge your battery before use, they normally ship uncharged. Be sure to buy proper safety glasses, you need them when burning or viewing the dot up close. The beam is safe to view but the dot if only a few feet away can be brighter than the sun. It will have good burning ability so be careful, make sure you avoid any direct contact with the beam. Eitan is very busy he has been taking 7 to 10 days to build and ship your laser, and since he ships from Israel it can take up to a month depending on your location but his prices are real good so it's worth the wait.

I already have a Nitecore i2 charger and I've bought safety glasses.
Won't even think about using it inside considering one of the reviews said it burnt/stung skin from 25 feet away.
I'm a patient person but I can't wait to get it.

Well I use mine inside but I quickly found they are a fire hazard and learned to use them safely. You haven't said what country your in, but be careful using it outside, don't attract too much attention to yourself. Here in the U.S. It isn't entirely legal to use a class 4 laser outside depending on how and where it's being used.

I live in Southern California and it'll be used in the desert.

Hi ;
Or you can use 2=18350's to thats what i use in my 501B builds. AW are also a good choice. Being your not using a boost drive 2=18350's will do fine and have a longer run time before charging again.

Rich:)

The desert sounds good as long as your more than 10 miles from any airport, still try not to point it in the sky too much unless it's in the middle of the night.

Alan

Another good thing to do is listen, even if the sky is clear, if you can hear an airplane anywhere around, even if it's behind you and headed away, wait and don't take any chances.
