This is a basic spirograph i made for my 15mw laser, it's not very pretty nor fancy or anything but it was fun doing and trying.

Consists of a switch, 2 pots (could have used only 1 tho) and 2 mirrors on cd player motors.

How To and parts list:

Parts:
-Simple On/Off Switch
-Circuit Board (Or wires)
-Wires
-~100ohms variable resistor (Not sure which value would be the best)
-2 motors, normal ones, not stepper (steppers have 4 or more wires, normals have 2 wires)
-Small Mirrors
-Batteries holder
-Something to hold you laser (could be a clothespin)
-And something to put everything on, a square plastic piece or wood, big enough, i used a cd-rom drive casing top

Useful:
-Soldering Iron with solder
-Glue gun
-Electric Tape

Wiring:

Here's a better looking diagram made by rog8811, Thanks !

How do you control the speed to make the different shapes ? and how did you got the on/of switch ?

yep the pots change the speed of each motor. nice work! simple, but effective! ;)

Yup as it was already mentionned, the pots (variable resistors) control the speed, and I got the on/off switch from a broken electronics kit i got a long time ago but you can find some in any kind of electronics store.

Exactly what parts do I need and can you get me some instructions , I want to replicate this with a red. I just have no idea how exactly to do it lol. ::)

Yeah sure I'll make a list with some pics and instructions ;)

Uhm, are those the stepper motors from CD rom or what?

Nope these are normal motors that controlled the tray and laser assembly usually they are smaller for the laser assembly but not in the one I took apart, stepper motor would be too complicated to run for such a simple thing.

And thanks for all the great comments ;D

On this thread are pictures of a hand held projector you can fit to any laser pen.

Instructions to build and movie of it woking are here

Very cheep and easy to make.
True, and the video is really great, you can build it on something like i did if you don't have a box that'd fit and you can substitute the motors with some other motors too.
