Hi,

I was looking at getting some of these AW 2900mah 18650 batteries and was wondering if I would have any problem with the lack of the "bump" on the positive terminal.

The 2600mah version does have the normal raised bump on the + terminal but unfortunately the local store where I get my Li ions does not have it and only has the 2900mah version with the flat + contact... Unfortunately since Canada has a ban on shipping li ions I don't think I can order anything on an online purchase from lighthound etc and I would prefer I can just purchase these locally although I do wonder how the local stores (the few that actually carry li ions in Canada) get them shipped here..

Anyhow, has anyone tried these flat top AW 2900mah 18650 in any of their lasers and did you have any positve contact issues with these?

Thanks to any that can offer some insight!! ;)

You could use small neodymium magnets to raise the top. Some lasers have already build in contact point for flat top batteries.

Thanks Blord, that's good to know I can always use those if they do not make contact.

Actually I was just thinking though, aren't the batteries cases made from aluminum and would this not be able to attract the magnet?

The magnets hold the AW 18650 battery very well. The battery is made from regular iron and not aluminium. The magnets hold also the Sanyo, Surefire or any other 18650 without problems.

Wow, thanks Blord for taking that picture for me that was very nice! Looks like I will have no problem then! :D +1 !! Edit: Darn I will have to rep you later when I can I guess, i need to spread some around first I think.

Anthot, also good to know that we can get these into Canada one way or another! :p

Lol yup :)

If you need I've got quite a few lying around here & I can give you a protected Sanyo 2600 if you want ;) I don't use that one because I like unprotected :)

Anthot, that is a really nice offer thanks!

I actually need two though so I probably will end up getting the AW's. It's actually for a Fenix TK35 820 lumen flashlight which needs two 18650's, so I'll probably try and get two of the same brand and mah rating. I will probably use these in lasers as well and use Blords advice on the magnets. I recently became interested in higher powered flashlights, some of them have a really neat beam like a defocused laser!

The TK35 is supposed to have a good balance between throw (distance spotlight) and wider illumination so the beam isn't as tight as some of the others but it's still pretty neat. Here are some videos of it in action if you haven't seen it.
