So i was working today, and while doing my job i picked up a cnc bit. Now knowing these are about 50$ a piece i handed it in to its rightful place and the person said "Throw it away".

Now i threw plenty away before hand because there useless to me and most of them just had wear on one side and were unused on the other side.

So it hit me..... I could be giving these to people who can use them! So i ask all machineists to post here if you have a lathe or cnc at home and please give me a picture pf your bits you use. I would like to see these bits get used rather than thrown away. I usually find eh 2-3 a month sometimes 10+ a month.

Anyhow if you can use them let me know. I will ship them to you at the cost of shipping.

I dont really know what kind of bits will fit so ill check them before i ask for shipping.

Let me know,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Just starting tooling up for my lathe so any would come in handy. Can you post a couple of pics and perhaps what material the tools are for working?

Nice bit of recycling you're doing there, i'm sure they'll help someone out if they're not suitable for me.

Thanks,

M

We machine both steel and aluminum. The bits i find are pretty random and i know little about machineing so i couldent tell you off hand. I might grab a book from work and then when i do find one i could further tell you specifics. The bits we get are made by Kenmetal. Uhm i dont even know if they will fit your lathe but if i grab a book i could probally tell you as the bits have serial numbers for identification. I do have about 5 or so but there at my other house. I may have 1-2 right now but ill have to look. I will also take pics so you could see for yourself what condition they are in.

Oh and good luck machineing :)

Edit: I managed to find a bit i had found months ago, it seems to have wear on 2 sides only not sure if you can see in the photo. Im sure it has 8 sides to it assuming you dont break it.

Anyhow, it seems the bits are cheaper than i thought. ranging from a few dollers to 10+. at any rate i will still offer them for the cost of shipping.

Heres the photo. http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3159/part1274300303514.jpg

I just started at a machine shop, and we go through a fair bit of bits (:D) They get dull so they won't cut threads evenly, but they would still cut other things just fine. The only problem would be that these bits are from gigantic (5x5 yard) Mazak machines. I don't know that they would fit on any smaller equipment..

If anyone wants to try, let me know and I'll ask If I can have the old ones. I think there is a big bucket of them somewhere around there. No promises though!

Yeah, these are from larger machines. Giant CNC and automated Sundstrand machines. I would hope sombody could use these because i would hate to keep throwing them away and theres nothing i could use them for.

I could mabye pull out the tape mesure if anyone wants exact dimensions on these.

Scale photos would be more informative...

From what you say though Jeff and Pontiac, it seems these would probably be hard to use on a smaller machine. At this point I have to mention the similarity in proportions to sled heatsinks here, or is it just me?!!! :D

I might not benefit but thanks for the sharing of these. Shows you're, 'for the cause'!
