Are these goggles OK?

Hi,
I am new to this hobby, so I am starting with a lpc-826 red laser @ about 400mw. I got the goggles here, but I don't know if they are going to be OK. Any ideas? I am willing to spend more on goggles if necessary, as I only have 2 seeing balls.
 





If they really are OD5+ then yes they will be plenty for 400mW of 650nm. I would assume that they aren't certified, but it's better than nothing at all.
 
The safety goggles are for protection of accidental hit or reflection of the dot.
They are not used for deliberately looking into the laser barrel. Any goggle with decent protection will do, like the one in your link.

I would bet an apple that they are not OD 5+ like the listing says,
If they were, you woundn't even be able to see a 400mW 660nm laser dot...

But still, they should work fine

What a pointless reply. The OP is asking whether the goggles are "decent protection" especially for accidental hits (who deliberately shines lasers into their eyes?). You're also in no position to evaluate the protection quality of those goggles if you haven't purchased those same goggles and verified their safety claims (i.e. certified them).

As for the goggles themselves, who knows? Are they OD5+ as they claim, or just a pair of blue-tinted goggles that are basically worthless? I certainly wouldn't trust them, and I'd have them tested before I start using them in any kind of protection role.
 
Actually I have that model goggle. They come in a red hardcase for glasses.
Anyway I have used it and the protection is decent. I haven't tested it in a laboratory environment but that isn't issue here.

The OP asked if the goggles are OK and I responded the question with my experience.
 
So let me get this straight- should I get some better goggles?

Yup, those would be fine.

You might want to check out Survival Lasers though... with shipping from DL, price will be about the same.
 
NP, happy to help, and this is the kind of question that's always welcome here... we're kind of paranoid about safety :p
