Arctic Knockoff on Ebay

I emailed the seller and he assures me they are 473nm... yea right. I also asked some other questions but he/she didnt seem to understand them which makes me wonder if UK is really the country of the seller...

"Hi,
Thnak you contacting us.
Let me know what prices you looking for? This laser is 500mW 473nm
thks
sam"

Spell check...is important

Sounds like he's another Frank (i.e.) Dragon.:gun:

Yup, it's definitely just the same Arctic host, but as it's specced slightly differently with a lower output, and using 2xCR123's, it's interesting.

Interesting in that the most obvious logical conclusion to me is that supplier(s) of the Arctic host, as well as the other main components must be selling to other retailers like this "Skylasers" company now.

LOL, it's funny to see one Chinese firm ripping off another Chinese firm ;)

They even make a reference to being able to get it posted immediately rather than having to wait 4 months.

Personally, I wouldn't go near them.

They might even be ripping off the S-ky Lasers brand too.

Basically, some bloke looking to enter the market with a high-power 445, slice off as much as possible from already competitive offerings from other players, scan the market for pictures, brand names, etc... that seem popular, bundle it all together and make some sales.

This is a big problem in Chinese manufacturing. China has a very bad reputation for theft of designs and then reselling them. The 'skylasers' laser here was probably made in the exact same factory line as the arctic. (just like those designer bags you see). I have seen this even with Aixiz modules, you can get them cheaper and exactly the same from O-like. Who know if there is a patent for the Aixiz modules and what company might have it.

Everyone know that patent is a word that chinese don't recognize.

Here in Brazil about a year ago we were flooded with cell phones knockoffs from china, (from iphone to every popular phone from other companies) and initially the quality of the knockoffs were acceptable, but then came the knockoffs from knockoffs. And ALL these phones were illegally imported (by chineses here) and the authorities since then have seized more than 3 million of these phones. They opened many of these phones and found many toxic materials used in the manufacturing process that are banned here and I think everywhere too.

There is many good chinese manufacturers, but for every 1 good is 100 with bad business practices.

Cheers

Do you think this might be WL trying to start over after all the bad rep?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but CNI makes the Arctic. Steve has a desk at CNI in fact. So is it possible CNI is starting to sell these hosts to other retailers, like they do with some of there other stuff?

.....To bad we cant just buy the hosts.

I thought of this several times months ago, I'm glad I'm not alone on the idea...

Imagine how popular 'quality' and more powerful S3 rebuilds would be if the right person could aquire a few hundred of these units. That host could easily house the proper driver & diode heatsinking for a 2W handheld no doubt. Sure there'd be a duty cycle difference with that amperage, but if ~1W was anything close to a 'lightsaber' when WL launched the S3 think of how ~2W would feel without endangering the diode (ie: proper heatsinking & short duty cycles)

Maybe I'll just try & make a raygun or something for now until a real jedi coughs up the whole lightsaber engineering structure....

I bought a broke G1, had it gutted and added an a140, 445nm lens, and a maxed Flexdrive. Its doing ~1.1W.

Thanks, I think I will have another cocktail or
