If you're gonna do your 'testing' that way, at least use thermodynamics, specific heats, rate of change (derivatives), joule imput/output, effectivity, Delta H of fusion, Delta G, Raleigh scattering, air power reduction, radian divergence, absorption spectrum variables and molar mass. (contamination margin of error too)

Advice. Take a college thermodynamics course and calculate Delta(H) of black ABS (assumed) of a 1.5mm dia. circle (and the thickness) do not omit divergence and air factors. Then calculate the enthalpy of fusion of the ABS plastic and the spontaneity of the black polymers reacting to decompose into oxygen, carbon and other products (depends on composition on a mole-mole basis) then reverse engineer the 2-3-4 equations to calculate (with derivatives) ACCURATELY the wattage of the laser preferably in mW, or W.

Important Edit... 445nm photons can excite particles much more than regular light can, therefore the beam spot can force the molecules in the plastic or paper to increase their entropy in the solid state a lot faster... they'll decompose a bit faster into the air, and produce some toxic gases. If 'burning' such objects perform it in a fumehood or outside with preferable ventilation. Since the laser is a concentrated stream of 'excitement' do not forget to wear appropriate eye protection. Some of the reactants, that is part of the ABS polymer may not fully decompose, leading to dangerous subproducts that are dangerous to human contact...

Its how you calculate laser power without a power meter. That is, its very DIFFICULT.

Don't take me too seriously... (aka... this forum saved me from sending money to WL, and instead my money has gone to jayrob & DTR & forum donation)

But WL are probably in spec, considering their 'spec' is so relaxed...
For example, the 1Watt laser with a min 500mw and max 1000mw.

I've attempted the search feature, but has anyone LPM'd one that fell below the min power? :-)

I would say if you consider buying from WL you should assume you'll get a laser that *might* meet the min spec power... but probably nowhere near the max power claimed.
Anyone back that up?
