Anything useful in a Toshiba TV?

Well crap, I just took apart all the CRT monitors in my house looking for a Kr laser.

Old rear projection tvs are FULL of goodies. Fresnel lens, huge FS mirror, dichros, combining cubes, other great optics! But this is not one of those TVs.

Depends on the tv. You'll only find cubes and dichros in *high end* 3 chip DLP's, ILDA's or LCD projection tv's so it really just depends on what you have. All your generally guaranteed is large fresnel, a front surface mirror (Not always useful. A lot of sets switched to 'stretched mylar' mirrors instead of traditional glass) and a handful of optics.

And even cut, the glass FS mirrors are only useful for bounce mirrors. They're far too thick and high mass for anything like galvo construction.

Speaking of FS mirrors. I have a large stack I need to cut up into squares. What size would people most want? I was thinking about 1"x1"

Nope. CRTs have a flyback converter which is fun to play with, rear projection TVs have various optics, but sadly LCD TVs have nothing worth extracting.

I know beamdumps are kinda useful, and since when you point a laser at a TV like mine, it absorbs a lot of the brightness, could I just take the front off and use that? or is there some dangerous stuff in it.

Ebay the boards out of it. They make LCD's now with LED backlights but this isn't one. It' uses CCFL.

Ebay the boards and get some cash, the rest is scrap.

I am wondering if he can take the boards out, might as well find the broken part and replace it? But then again I heard the panel is very expensive?

He said the panel was broken. With LCD's or plasmas, if you have a broken panel, it's cheaper to replace the whole tv that it is to replace the panel. The only way it's cost effective is if you just happen to have a good panel in another identical set that has bad boards. and even then, you put the good boards in the set with the good panel, not vice versa. And that's generally only going to happen if your a tv repair shop, which is a business we're trying to get out of. heh.
