Anyone Wet Shave?

That's odd on the gillette handle situation. They never really changed the threads on the heads or handles. Vintage razors are cheap enough whole as it is anyway. Can get a decent vintage gillette for about $20. The biggest thing also come down to blades as well. I'm still burning through blades trying to figure out what works best. There's dozens upon dozens of double edged blades from mild to sharpest of sharp and can change the way a razor shaves on its own.

I just hate the idea that these blades are just sitting in my closet. I'm to the point of making my own "mickey' handle.
Keep wanting to go to a good flea market again, more for anything laser related as when I last went in all honesty has to be over 10 years ago and i'm sure i'll come across something due to lasers.
Also will checkout vintage razor's. Your right way too many option's and was happy when just the double edges came up. Now there's 5 blades, swivel heads and had no clue they sell them do to sharpness
Just give me those $2 3 packs and i'm happy for now till I might find that nice relaxing shave I hear about. At least its an excuse to get out to a flea market.

ANot excuse to go somewhere is always a good excuse, but yea the sharpest blades you can buy are Feather blades which for some people eat their face up. My favorite just blade is the gillette 7o"clock green blades. They are also a lot cheaper in bulk. About $13- $16 for 100 blades. There also a website called tryablade where you can buy single blades or sampler packs at a cheap cost. If you want a decent cheap shave brush Omega is probably the best entry level brush, but that's all in due time. I hope you find a decent razor. Pretty much all the vintage gillettes shave great as well as the vintage schicks but there are tons of vintage razors and all are based off of each other in one way or another through history.

The blades themselves then sure even if they are new old stock. Most older blades were made from steel if they were stored in less than ideal conditions even in the box any moisture will rust a blade and you wouldn't want that on your face. However if there are no signs of rusthe on the blade then it is perfectly acceptable to use and they retain their sharpness as they should.

Now the razors themselves all vintage ones are either brass, nickel plated brass, bake lite, and on rare occasion rhodium plated brass so if they are new old stock should be fine. However early gillettes were such a thin wall of brass on the handle that over time expansion and contrast due to temperature causes the handle to split, but it is repairable.

I've never wet shaved before. My experience with shaving with electric razors wasn't pleasant. I have very coarse facial hair. The hair diameter is quite large. Electric razors ALWAYS pull the hair and is very painful. Any disposable razor will not work. I have found only two razors that I am willing to shave with. Schick quatro with aloe sensative, and the Gillette mach 5 (which I truely do not prefer but it works). Can you provide me with more incite on wet shaving and how that may or may not be of benefit?

In my opinion the greatest benefit would be the fact that there are options and combinations of blades and razors that would specifically to a thicker beard per se. In terms of what shaving with thick facial hair I would say getting a slant razor is what they call it where is physically twist the blade when it is loaded into the double edge head therefore causing almost a guillotine cutting action as opposed to swiping the blade directly across your face therefore it should give you a smoother shave it specially with thicker hair and then you would pair that with a sharper blade. On top of that you would have the soap or oil plus soap if you prefer that method to help protect your skin I'm not saying it would work perfectly but I would definitely give it a try you may never cut yourself at first because it does take a little bit of getting used to but when I first started it only took me about 3 days to get the hang of it because you do not use pressure as you would with a cartridge due to the angle and the fact that it is a single piece of coated steel against your skin vs the heavily angled multi Blades of cartridges.

A slant razor head with handle would be about $50 and decent blades are pennies. A decent soap would be about $12 a brush about $12. 100 pack of decent blades is about $12 but just starting out you could get 20 pack for about $8

Anyone reading this I would possibly consider sending a starter kit to try out wet shaving if interested. It would be a modern double edge that I started out with, a cheap brush, and a scentless soap sample I never used and some cheaper blades. I only have one set since even though it's a cheaper razor it was still a $30 razor.
