I posted not because of what it does (sequence DNA), but what it contains-> An Argon laser. ;)

The PSU will be 220V. If you only have 120V mains, you will have to get another PSU. Also be warned; the unit weighs almost 300 pounds. You'll need a truck and some strong friends.

oooooh an argon? i might get that for sure! Would it be more trouble than its worth to get the laser out? and would i be able to just plug it in? I might definitely get this ;)

It is VERY unlikely that the price will remain at $10 ;D
Most experienced bidders will only bid at the last minute to avoid bidding wars with others. Especially if the auction has been posted here. There are almost 6000 members of this list that are all interested in lasers and have now been shown the auction. Many of them are older, with disposable income, and are willing to and have the time to drive several hours for a deal.

They are big, noisy, use a lot of electricity, and create a lot of heat. In addition this entire unit weighs around 300 pounds so getting it and disposing of the "waste" and recycling is a problem. It is also wired for 220V mains. Unless you have 220V power, you will have to get another PSU and fan for it.

Argons are cool, but they are a lot of work. You have to store them, set them up, and tear them down to use them. You have to remember to run them every month to maintain the gas pressure at acceptable levels. They are truly a "hobby"

That is totally a matter of choice.  Many of us do think that it is worth it.  I just wanted everyone to know what they were getting into with one of these.  There is significantly more to gas lasers than just taking cool pictures.  Although the pictures ARE cool

I think my dryer has access to the 220v mains, there is a 4 pronged plug, is this right?

If you have a four-prong plug for the dryer, you have 220V available there
