Fight at Night: U.S Army Night Vision 1945-1980

American one

"About 150 of the T3 Carbines and early Infrared Sniperscopes reached the field in time for the Okinawa campaign (April through June, 1945). Reportedly they were effective in stopping night time infiltration into U.S. lines by the Japanese."

Bascially it was a giant spot light with a filter that blocked visible light and image tube ran by a 30 some pound battery only lasted 15 mins. Crazy stuff

Gotta start somewhere! You know how it goes, the first extremely slow to our standards computers filled a building.... refinements, refinements.

I've seen a US army IR illiumator for sale on ebay all it was was a tungsten bulb with a black filter over the light.
