Another Sanwu 505nm Pocket review.

I want to start by saying the color of this wavelength is beautiful! I’m really impressed with the machining of the Pocket beauty, Podo does some good work :) I like it so much that I may try to collect every available wavelength of the Pocket. Also because I’m definitely not rich so I can’t afford to collect every Guardian wavelength :(
Order date was 3-06-18
Arrived on 4-02-18
It took 27 days to arrive, which seems a bit longer than I thought if I have to be honest. I actually don’t even know when it shipped because it kept saying no Information availability. Sci-Fi was 45 days until I got my 501B so still much quicker than sci-fi was for me at least.

But all in all I’m still very happy because once it arrived I pretty much knew it would be worth it.
I also ordered a Cyan Pocket and a 445nm Striker so I can’t wait for them to arrive.

First thing I noticed was that the machining was so good that you can’t even see the lines where the tail cap unscrews, and the size is literally a tad bigger than a cigarette. Very small in deed.

Also if you have the Efest Manganese IMR flat top cells, the 350ma ones they will actually work just fine in the Pocket even though you’re supposed to use button top and their is no spring on the inside where the Diode end is, this is because the Efest IMR 350ma cells actually protrude out about have a mm or 1/25 of an inch of the + side so it makes contact with the battery board. I don’t really have much more to add other than I love this little thing :)

First Sanwu Laser and will certainly not be my last.
((LPM hit 39.1mw)) and was very stable around that output, it hovered in that output range for as long as I had the laser on, the Duty Cycle 30-40 second so I dont wanna push it, it probably never will get warm but you still don’t wanna leave it on long.

Sanwu’s Pockets are some great units. Thanks for the review and the pics. And best wishes with your Pocket collection. Would be awesome to have/see them all. :drool:

Did anyone else make the connection this 505 pocket is using a case Positive HL91 diode, and only uses a 3.7v cell, so Sanwu is using a boost driver with diode isolation I would assume? And good chance being a HL91 that it's <505nm :drool:

Edit: just bought 2x efest 10440 cells too, thanks for the info that they fit :beer:

Glad you are enjoying it, Richie. I have the wavelengths of most of these 505nm iterations from my own measurements and this one is very likely less than 505nm. Especially at 39 mW. It has to be using a boost driver as the Vf is higher than one Li-ion battery. I would stick to that 30 second run time as the tiny host have little to no heat sinking.

Hey JNR, hmm I didn’t even think of that, now that makes me wish I had a Spectrometer even more now lol. So is Podo using the sharp 505? And is it a case + diode I tried looking on DTRs site but didn’t see anything. That sure would be awesome if it was lower than 505nm.

Oh yes! Now all we need is for sharp to invest in 589nm WL. Haha we all sure could dream :)

So their is a good chance mine is hitting <505nm?
I would take it apart to see if it’s boost but I’m afraid I mess something up :(

Wow great review Richie, I measured mine with the LPS LPM and it measured at 33mW (3-element), as people say that LPM may not be the most accurate, but that's about how much the laser was advertised at.
Hope to see your 488nm review as well. :)

I'm very interested in seeing if the lasers they are selling as 488nm are actually that wavelength. Unless they have a good calibrated spectrometer and someone who knows how to use it, they can't be selling actual 488nm lasers.

USPS Tracking says my 488nm-490nm Sanwu Pocket will arrive tomorrow. I don’t have a spectrometer, but Podo wrote that they were all tested before shipping. I’ll post my LPM measurements and WL impressions after I try it out. Thanks. Please Take Care and Be Well. :D

If it is a true 488nm laser, you shouldn't see any green hints in it. I don't with my argon single line 488nm or my <488nm ECD build.

But Boost topology means no boosting on the negative side, only leaving us with the assumption the diode is isolated from the case, and connected to both - & + of the driver :thinking: < or the battery is isolated from the case :thinking:

O and, Sanwu might have access to a spectrometer, and being a leading laser supplier, laser diode consumer, i would assume they can hire someone who knows the ropes! That or they are using a third party for the measurements. Either way i'm alittle excited that they offered to send "measured" lasers. Bring on the 488 pockets :beer:

If Sanwu is using a boost driver on a case positive diode, the battery MUST be isolated from the case as it would short out the battery otherwise.

I didn't say that Sanwu doesn't have a good working spectrometer and someone who can set it up properly to measure wavelengths of these diodes. It would just be unusual for a Chinese laser pointer seller to have all that.
