Hey. I don't know anything about lasers except that they're neat. I was just randomly recommended a styropyro video on youtube where he built a giant IR laser and I thought it'd be fun to build one too, but he did say that shouldn't be your first project, so I figured I'd come here to learn the basics first, then the intermediate stuff, and then, someday down the line, maybe I'll work my way up to that IR cannon. Time will tell since, alas, I have no talent for technology but I'm sure it'll be an interesting journey one way or another.

I doubt I'll participate much on the forum except for this intro since generally my policy is to lurk 1-2 years before posting. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with the search button.

Welcome to the LPF. Hope you are able to find the information you may be looking for here. Enjoy your stay and stay safe.

Get an education about lasers first.. A lot of good info on LPF and LPF Search.
Perhaps get a Laser 301 on eBay for around $10 to get an idea of what lasers are, can do, and how they behave.

Don't become an accident looking for a place to happen.
Study up on laser safety. Best web site on same see:
https://www.laserpointersafety.com/

This is a good idea. The 301 and 304 style lasers are quite inexpensive on eBay. They aren't burning lasers so you only need to worry about specular reflections into your eyes.

Welcome, and have fun learning! Such a great place with answers already here! Use that search button like it's going out of style!

Welcome to LPF
Enjoy the hobby and always remember safety 1st.

Welcome to your new addiction.... :D

Welcome to the Forum..
There is a lot of free info and build tutorials
on the Forum... but you will need to read
them. Remember to ALWAYS wear Laser Safety
Goggles/Glasses when operating a Laser.

Enjoy your stay.

Jerry
