I just received the rkcstr driver. Still waiting on the PHR.

For setting the current, can I simply attach my amp meter on the output end ???

If so, why do people use a test load for testing the output??

An ammeter has a very low internal resistance. It might cause the short-circuit protection of the IC to kick in and thus result in a false reading. Using a test load is simply for simulating the real operating environment and preventing that sort of surprise.

Yes, you CAN do it that way with no test load, but it is safer in case of a mishap. I do all my settings that way because, well I get in a hurry sometimes. :D I haven't had anything bad happen to any of mine. Do it at your own risk though, even Ryan ( rkcstr inventor) told me that. It is in the instructions for the version four driver.
