Affordable Adjustable Lab Laser Diode Power Supply

I think you guys are missing the point...
Yes it is a Buck Supply and a higher than required
voltage is needed on the input to power the Supply.

I used a $7.00 6A switching power supply like the
ones for Laptops. So not 2-3 times the price of the
supply.

As the tittle of this thread states... Lab Laser Diode
Power Supply
.
I am looking for a max of 5A at about 7-8 volts to
power my different wavelength LDs to just above 1W
in clean 1mA increments.

This supply does that...

I have AC powered 10 Amp Lab supplies in the shop for
our other electronic needs and testing.

No, we understand the point entirely. You've found something that works for what you need. That's great.

MY point is that you forgot to mention the external supply that is needed, and that for full operational range, a larger investment than they would expect is required. Nothing more.

I find these types of supplies to be useful for that 3rd, non-adjustable output on some of the larger power supplies (like a TekPower TP3003). Gives you the ability to actually adjust what you are pushing with that output.
Thanks for the review!!

I did mention it in Post #17....

This Thread is not about a multi-use CV/CC 36V 5A Lab
style Power Supply... to test Laser Diodes only.
It is about a CV/CC 5A Lab Laser Diode Power Supply.
My need was an inexpensive good quality CV/CC 5A Lab
Laser Diode Power Supply.

If you want to discuss multi-use Lab Power supplies you
are entirely free to open a Thread discussing those types
of Power Supplies since you are such a stickler for precise
details.....;)

I on the other had prefer discussing this inexpensive CV/CC
5A Lab Laser Diode Power Supp...

To recap:

Lasersbee *original post not mentioning the external supply needed*
Cyp "These need an external supply"
Lasersbee "yeah they do, but that's not the point because I already have one"
Cyp "Right, the point is others will need one"
Lasersbee "I already mentioned that... after you mentioned it."

...you are such a stickler for precise
details.....;)

The requirement of an external power supply is a major part of the complete functioning unit, not a "precise detail" that I'm being a "stickler" for. Why are you getting so snide and defensive about this? Why not "oh yeah, these need an external supply" and move on?

Not defensive at all....
I now understand what post you were referring to...

I have AC powered 10 Amp Lab supplies in the shop for
our other electronic needs and testing.

I meant to say...
I have other AC powered 10 Amp CV/CC Lab Power supplies in
the shop for our other electronic needs and testing.... but are
too noisy/glitchy for use as a Laser Power Supply.

I did not mean...AC adapter Power Supplies to power the CV/CC
Laser Diode Power Supply in the OP.
I guess I wasn't 100% clear. Thanks for pointing out that error.

Oh yeah... the CV/CC Lab Laser Diode Power Supply in the OP
will need an appropriate DC power source on its input to power it....;)
I thought that was obvious from the info in the links I gave..
