Advice for a beginner

Seeing as I don't know what flux is, I would say no. And yes I pre-tinned. I am also having problems de-soldering things so I'm going to hold off doing anything until I get some of that braided copper wire.

Flux is also called "solder paste" or "rosin flux." Rosin core solder is NOT enough.
