Most all O-like modules recomend using 2 AAA batteries but I want to put this module in a host that is built for 2 AA batteries will the module be protected using the AA batteries with it's internal driver?

John's 100% correct - the larger battery capacity will give you longer runtimes, as long as the voltage supplied to the laser is right at that 2.8-3.6v range, you'll be just fine! I actually have an SXD module in a host that takes an 18650 rechargeable that puts out 4.1V fully charged with no troubles ...
