I put together the GB laser (thanks Greg for the GB) and everything works fine.

What type of eye protection is everyone wearing? The output power (not sure about the power density) is not greater than using a magnifying glass to focus the sun on a target.

What are the cool things to burn besides tape, dark plastic, flint powder, etc?

I have found that the paint on wooden pencils smokes instantly, which is good when showing the laser off to people :), if they have never seen a high power laser before they are usually impressed by it.

As for eye protection for the red lasers I have the blue sport goggles from wicked lasers but they do not allow you to see the spot....at all! It is totally invisible which defeats the purpose of seeing the laser.

E-mc2 - get the lasershades - they work PERFECTLY for reds....you still cannot see the beam, but you can see a faint dot, so you can see what you are working with - I regretted buying hte sport elite reds as soon as they arrived - I was like, WTF ?? They are NO GOOD ! LOL !!!

Light cigarettes... always a nice trick.

Also, an interesting target is incense. Smokes nicely upon impact, and smells a lot better than charring plastics. With a bit of effort it might even be doable to actually light it, havent really tried yet.

i've tried lighting incense with my 112mW CNI green, even tried with black marker ink on the end, never could do it!

NOw might be a good time to go thru your junk mail, I found one type of paper that will keep on burning after I attacked it with my open can red, certain things will really smoke well, try the black rubber on your shoes perhaps. Or you can goto the link within my post and see the effects of reflecting the beam of off a plastic cigarrette lighter, resulting in dancing moire type patterns.

You could try lighting a candle, the wick is black (but turns into a shiny HR wax coatign when heated).

Alternatively, get the black tipped matches from DX.

1+ on the laser shades from WL. Shipping seemed like a slow boat from China (even though they were shipped air), but I eventually got them after about 2 weeks.
